Yoghurt Plus History

Yoghurt  Plus is the passion and vision of John Crosbie Goold, an ex AFL, dual premiership player and highly respected media personality from the 60's and 70's. John now resides in Camperdown in country Victoria where animals, and more importantly, animal welfare, is his passion.

The Yoghurt Plus journey began over 7 years ago in 2002, with a project looking at the death rates in cattle at Midfield Meats. Prebiotics and probiotics were introduced into the diets of the claves. The result was an increase in the good bacteria levels within the gastro intestinal tracts. By activating the bacteria, calves then started to drink milk, which in turn lifted their immunity and set them on the path to recovery. The trials reduced deaths from 30% to 40%. The product is still being fed to the calves today. It was these results that lead John to the conclusion that the same health benefits could be experienced with other animals. With 80 working dogs and numerous domestic pets on his property, John embarked on his own feeding trials, developing the product that we have today over the years, to deliver the following amazing results:

Increased protein utilisation
Healthy, shiny coats
Muscle definition
Increased fertility
Reduction in lawn burn
Reduction in stool volume and odour
Reduction in urine odour
Increased immunity
Increased general heath and energy

The results were there for all to see. John collected stool samples every morning (and still does) to ensure that they remain firm and the odour is reduced. There was a dramatic reduction in the urine smell in the kennels, the lawn became green and healthy and most importantly the dogs were fit and healthy.

This was just anecdotal evidence though. To substantiate the claims and to identify the science behind the results, feeding trials were conducted under strict AAFCO test protocols in 2005 at the University of Melbourne Veterinary School in Australia in conjunction with the Greyhound Adoption Program Kennels.

The University operates the pre eminent veterinary school in Australia. This facillity also acts as the largest canine blood bank in the southern hemisphere, supplying product around Australia and Asia. A permanent testing kennel of 50 greyhounds is maintained and supervised by the school ethics committee. This facility can measure the biochemistry of the blood in test groups, identifying protein metabolism, cortisol levels and key health and immune system indicators such as red and white blood cells.

The results were vetted by Professor Nick Costa of Murdoch University, Western Australia and Dr Robert Gillette of Auburn University, USA. Auburn maintains a canine research facility recognized globally for excellence. Greyhounds and fox hounds are utilized to cover all aspects of stamina, endurance and strength.

The conclusions of the trials have been presented in a 100 page report by Professor Nick Costa (Head of the School for Environmental Science, Murdoch University, Australia) and Dr Robert Gillette (Director Veterinary Medicine Program Auburn University, USA). The report substantiates the claims made on Yoghurt Plus products and the fact that Yoghurt Plus is like no other pet food in that it delivers a number of nutritional benefits by greatly increasing protein utilisation. Yoghurt Plus is also safely being used in leading kennels throughout Australia and the USA for the last 3 years.

Just like yoghurt creates inner health for humans through the use of beneficial bacteria, Yoghurt Plus lets pets enjoy the same health benefits that the whole family does.

We sincerely hope you and your pets enjoy the product that we are proud to bring to you.
