Daisy's Story

It takes a special kind of owner to adopt a dog from the pound, and in the case of “Daisy” the Jack Russell it took a special kind of pet food for her to recover to full health after her rescue.

The story of Daisy the dog made newspaper headlines in WA after she was rescued from an abusive owner in a horribly emancipated and unhealthy condition.

Daisy arrived at the pound with calloused and broken ribs showing through on her very tiny underweight body, not to mention multiple abrasions and cuts and a nasty ulceration in and around her mouth due to contact chemical burns.

When Mike and Mercedes Wilson adopted Daisy and took her home, her skin was red raw underneath her belly due to being in contact with motor oil, she had irritated dermatitis which extended from the bottom of her lower jaw to her back legs, and she weighed less than 4kg.

Daisy was taken to the Vets and prescribed cortisone creams, lotions, shampoos and herbal treatments, none of which managed to clear up her skin condition, and her fur was dry and coarse.

The real problem faced by the Wilson’s came at feeding time, when as a result of the neglect and abuse of her previous owner, Daisy was to scared to approach the food bowl, and would approach it crawling on her belly. Daisy would then eat what she could and in many cases vomited even though the Wilsons only fed her small portions.
“We tried many varieties of pet food, including organic pet foods and vet brand pet food but unfortunately these were not tolerated well. We did not photograph Daisy in this state as we did not want to remember the way she was when we first got her as it makes us feel very sad.”  – Mike & Mercedes Wilson

Daisy remained in less than ideal weight and condition until the Wilson’s started feeding her with Yoghurt Plus in April 2008. On the Yoghurt Plus diet Daisy stopped vomiting and started holding her food down, the allergic dermatitis on her body started clearing up, and to the relief of Mike & Mercedes she finally started to gain weight.

Daisy’s health improved and every day she had more energy, her skin cleared up, her fur became softer and best of all she eventually reached a healthy weight of around 8kg.  Her change in appearance was so dramatic that in October 2008 Daisy even won a local pet competition.

“It is amazing the transformation from the little, timid, waif of a dog that Daisy once was, to becoming a picture of health. Yoghurt plus hasn’t just given Daisy her health, it has allowed her to live her life and has allowed us the privilege to share it with her.” – Mike & Mercedes Wilson.
