Nutritional Information

Below is a list of all the key ingredients in Yoghurt Plus and the role they play in your pets health and wellbeing.

Protein- A class of nutrients that supplies amino acids, or protein subunits, to build hair, skin, nails, muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Common protein sources include meat, fish, some plant sources including corn and soybean.

Fat – A class of nutrients that provides energy, palatability, and provides important functions in the body, including maintaining body temperature. Fats are found in meats, fish, and plant oils such as vegetable and flaxseed. Fats also provide the important subunits Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

Fibre- A complex carbohydrate broken down by intestinal bacteria. The degree to which the fibre breaks down depends on its fermentability. Fermentation provides short chain fatty acids, which are used as an energy source of intestinal cells. Highly fermentable sources, such as vegetable gums, provide high levels of short chain fatty acids. Moderately fermentable fibre provides, such as beet pulp, provides moderate levels of short chain fatty acids and bulk for waste. Slight fermentable fibre such as cellulose, provides mainly a bulk waste function.

Salt- A dietary source of sodium and chloride. Sodium is an essential mineral for life. Found in the blood and the fluids that surround the cells, sodium maintains the cellular environment and prevents cells from swelling and dehydrating. Sodium is also important in maintaining proper nerve and cell function. Some high quality pet foods may not have salt as an ingredient, because it is contained in the meats used.

Omega 3
- A fatty acid that is essential for maintaining a healthy skin and coat, normal growth, proper cell membrane structure, assists brain development and the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Cold water fish and flaxseed are the main sources.

Omega 6- Same results as Omega 3 except they are more inflammatory. Sources are animal fats, soy and corn.

Calcium- Principle component of bones and teeth. Important in blood clotting, necessary for contraction of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle and is required for the excretion of certain hormones.

Phosphorous- An important mineral that is essential for bone development and formation, development of teeth, lactation and energy utilization and transfer. Intimately linked with calcium.

Taurine- An essential amino acid for cats. Also helps with heart functions.

Magnesium- An essential mineral that activates many enzyme systems, involving energy exchange. Helps maintain normal nerve function.

Vitamin A- A fat soluble vitamin necessary for growth, eyes and structure and function of cells of skin and mucous membranes. In weight loss diets, at elevated levels, it is helpful in stopping weight regain.

Vitamin C
- A fat soluble vitamin that has anti oxidant properties.
Vitamin E
- A fat soluble vitamin that protects skin cells from oxidant damage. It optimises immunity system T-Cell activation and is important in the nervous, vascular and reproductive systems.

Ascorbic Acid
- A dietary source of vitamin C.

L-Cartinine- A vitamin like compound made in the body made from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is found in animal based sources of protein. Helps maintain and achieve optimal body weight, and composition by transporting fatty acids into cellular mitochondria, where they are broken down through oxidation and converted to energy for all tissues, including the heart, liver and skeletal muscles.
